Magical Thinking

I found myself in a team building exercise last week, where the leader asked all of us what was something we believed we could do as children that was not possible.  The first thing that came to mind was that I really thought I could fly when I was around 4 years old.  I would run really fast in the field behind our house and take large, sprinted leaps in the air.  As soon as I answered her question several other supernatural childhood skills came to mind.  Around that same time, when I was 4 or 5 years old, I talked to animals and knew that they understood me.  I would play with squirrels in the park and run with the birds in the air.  I was an excellent hider as well.  I became so still that I was absolutely sure I had become invisible.

It was so fun to recall these special childhood talents of mine.   As we all stood around in a circle and laughed at our youthful magical thinking, it made me wonder how as children we could believe that we were beaming with so many supernatural talents but as adults we struggled to simply believe in ourselves. What had happened to our vigor for life?  The spirit of a child is a special thing that we all have within us.  It seems like something we should try to stay connected to or reconnect to.

What would that look like?
