…what I know so far. By Jodi Morris
Where does energy come from? What is its source? What gives us energy or takes energy from us?
Socializing for introverts requires a great deal of energy. Whereas, socializing for extroverts gives them energy. What is the difference between them? In order to answer that question we need to understand what gives a person energy. An introvert may answer that question by saying that alone time gives them energy. The extrovert might answer by saying a great conversation gives them energy.
Have you ever walked into a room and interrupted people arguing and thought or said the phrase “You can cut the tension in the air with a knife, it’s so thick.” You are actually sensing the energy in that room.
This is why sporting events are attractive to most people because the energy is so amplified it’s infectious. Maybe a litter of puppies gives you energy, watching the sunrise, going to the mountains, or sitting on a beach by the ocean gives them energy.
The American Medical Association (AMA) recognizes that human beings have an energy system. Acupuncture, acupressure, kinesiology, reflexology, and massage influence that energy system. Asian bodywork uses the terms Yin for negative and Yang for positive body energy forces. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has successfully utilized energetic treatment of the body for over 2500 years. Acupuncture is an aspect of TCM known for its therapeutic effectiveness. Massage therapist train in understanding the 12 Body Meridians for acupressure massage. There is anatomical evidence of these meridians can powerfully influence the body systems. Kinesiologists utilize muscle testing to understand energy levels in the body to help diagnose different ailments and diseases. Reflexologists utilize the chakra energy system, along with the meridians utilized in TCM. The study of the chakra energy system is mostly used in Reiki. Reiki was developed in Japan in the early 1900’s for the purpose of manipulating universal life energy held in the body. This energy is also the focus of most meditation practices.
Whether it’s science or pseudo-science, we want to know how to protect our energy from getting zapped by situations or other people. How do we keep higher levels of energy? Let’s start by understanding the different types of energy.
Your physical body produces chemical energy that is manipulated through nutrients (food, supplement, fluids) you put in or on your body and exercise. These three types of energy are called anaerobic alactic, anaerobic lactic, aerobic. We also have mental energy which relates to self-esteem, confidence, motivation, and cognition. Not to be confused with emotional energy that involves your psychology, expressing and understanding emotions. Spiritual energy refers to your connection to God, and your ability to hold and practice peacefulness, joy, and compassion. I think what we are trying to gain a better understanding of is environmental energy.
We all sense energy from other people, places, and sometimes objects or animals. Can we choose whether, or not, we are affected by the energy of other things? Years ago, I had a friend that worked as a massage therapist. She would place a copper penny in her belly button to keep from absorbing her client’s energy. She swore by it. A little research on the origin of use of copper dates to around 76 A.D. in Greece and Egyptian cultures. Copper is used to balance and clear energy still to this day. Also, pennies prior to 1982 were 95% copper but after that are only 2.5% copper. Burning sage (smudging) over yourself and around the room is a common ritual that is used to clear energy today and in ancient ceremonies. This ritual came from Native American cultures. I like to imagine myself in a big pink sparkly bubble, like Glynda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz. My bubble is my imaginary protector from energy vampires. Whether it’s copper, sage, or your own imagination there are small trips and tricks we can do to help us protect our energy.
A friend of mine recently told me about a chiropractor in another state that is psychically treating her back pain via Zoom conference. She says he helps several people this way and has great reviews. Now, I’m off to try and figure out how that works!
I think we can safely say that our power of self-influence can be incredibly powerful. So, stay mindful of what you give your energy to and the words you say to yourself. We are more powerful than we think we are.
